STARTING OVER has many themes that cover the various aspects of rebuilding a nearly broken or damaged life. The chapters cover the process of finding faith, where to look for guidance, knowing truth, building moral character, and maintaining character after going through the steps of starting over. This class book is designed as a workbook for participants of small group sessions. There is a separate facilitator book available for those leading the class and want additional notes and guidance.
PART 1 - Charting a Course sets the foundation for developing a successful plan of getting outof the pit we have fallen into. We must do something about it but we must do the right things.Lesson 1 deals with trust and faith issues that may be very difficult when we have had the windknocked out of us. Lesson 2 involves making good choices based on realistic assessments andexpectations. Lesson 3 addresses our personal integrity and how others see us and how we wantothers to see us. These are all important to our recovery.
PART 2 - Staying on Course gives guidance on how to overcome obstacles that will stand in ourway of success. Lesson 4 shows the importance of self control and Lesson 5, endurance.
PART 3 - Traveling Light shows things that will have to be given up to reach our goal. Two of the biggest obstacles are falling into the pit of despair and dragging a load of unforgiveness.Lesson 6 shows that grief from losses is very normal but a place where many people get stuck.Lesson 7 shows that guilt must also be dealt with.
PART 4 - Arriving Home. Finally, as we are near the place where we want to be, we learn theimportance of fitting in and getting along with others. We don't live alone. Lesson 8 gives sometips on how to do this. Lesson 9 speaks to the fulfillment that we get when we show maturity byliving for others and following the Golden Rule.
